At a glance
As an DevOps Technical Lead within the Innovation department, you operate at the highest level of engineering maturity. You are a senior technical expert who designs, builds, and governs highly complex, bank wide solutions. You play a decisive role in shaping technical direction, enabling experimentation, and translating innovation into scalable, secure, and compliant production systems. The ABN AMRO Innovation Platform Engineering team is responsible for maintaining and evolving applications, ensuring it meets bank standards while deploying and managing infrastructure in line with those standards to explore the use of emerging technologies. You work in a multidisciplinary environment alongside Innovation Managers, other senior engineers, architects, and business stakeholders, and you act as a technical authority within your domain.
Working Environment
The Innovation department within Innovation & Technology (I&T) plays a central role in delivering ABN AMROs innovation agenda, in close collaboration with the Client Units and Functions. It consists of four teams; Innovation Tech and Support, AI, Digital Assets and Embedded Banking. Within Innovation we take ownership, stay ahead of the curve on business and technology developments, challenge the status quo and fail fast. Initiatives are delivered based on impact to enable (in order of priority) cost savings, revenue increase, capital relief and net promotor score (client satisfaction). The Innovation Tech and Support team is a shared services support team that includes the additional capabilities required to enable delivery of innovation initiatives led by the AI, Embedded Banking and Digital Assets teams. This team also facilitates the overall operations of the innovation department. Members of this team will contribute directly to innovation initiatives based on their expertise.
As DevOps Technical Lead – you:
• Design, build, and maintain highly complex, bank wide platforms and services – You build it, you run it
• Define and own the technical roadmap for platform engineering, ensuring alignment across teams and initiatives
• Act as the technical lead and authority for complex engineering challenges
• Set engineering standards and best practices
• Proactively identify and mitigate architectural, operational, and security risks
• Coordinate activities across multiple teams and domains, ensuring cross team alignment and reuse of capabilities
Requirements
Your profile
You are a platform engineering professional with deep technical expertise on infrastructure. You combine strategic thinking with hands on technical authority and are comfortable operating at bank wide scale.
Experience & qualifications
Stack description:
• Cloud: Azure
• Container Orchestrators: AKS, Container Apps or App Service
• DevOps tooling: Azure DevOps
• Observability: Azure Monitoring, Log analytics Workspaces. Basis Knowledge required.
• Identity and Access management: Microsoft Entra ID – nice to have
Technical:
• Proven knowledge and experience with Azure cloud running containerized workloads in production in corporate environments (8 years or more)
• Solid IAM and networking concepts
• Infrastructure as Code: Proficient writing Bicep and Terraform
• Proven knowledge automating Dev, Sec and Ops using CI/CD solutions (preference Azure DevOps).
• Passion to automate repeated tasks using scripting languages and/or Infrastructure as Code
• Understand the importance of security in the public cloud and in containerized workloads.
• Strong programming expertise (e.g. Python, Java, TypeScript or equivalent) and experience designing backend heavy systems
Nice to Have:
• Automated Testing
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g. Azure, Kubernetes)
• Curious about new trends in Cloud and DevSecOps. (Keeps up to date by reading relevant blogs/articles, regularly attending meetups and conferences). Knows where the industry is going.
• In depth understanding of security, risk, compliance, and non functional requirements in regulated environments
• Experience with integrating new technologies into existing enterprise IT landscapes
Professional behaviour & mindset:
• Able to create and maintain good relationships with developers and help them to reduce friction and avoid frustration using his/her automations skills.
• You can translate complex technical topics into clear narratives for both technical and non technical stakeholders
