Purpose of the Role:
The Test Competency Lead is responsible for establishing and driving the testing strategy and practices across Jumbo’s SAP-centric application landscape within the retail technology landscape. This includes leading end-to-end testing efforts, implementing automation frameworks, overseeing performance testing, and heading the Testing Chapter to uplift capabilities, governance, and delivery excellence. The role plays a critical part in ensuring the stability, reliability, and scalability of SAP solutions and connected applications (microservices etc.) that support key retail operations.
Function
Key Responsibilities:
1. End-to-End Testing Leadership
• Define and manage comprehensive E2E test strategies across SAP modules (e.g., SD, MM, FI/CO, Retail) and connected applications.
• Ensure coverage across core business processes (e.g., procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, inventory, finance).
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, functional consultants, and developers to validate requirements and process flows.
• Oversee test planning, execution, defect triage, and test closure activities across releases.
2. Test Automation
• Design and implement automation frameworks suitable for SAP (e.g. Tricentis Tosca, Worksoft Certify, UFT).
• Identify high-value regression scenarios for automation and integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines.
• Govern automation standards, reusability, and maintainability across the test suite.
• Drive automation maturity across the organization through tools, training, and support.
3. Performance Testing
• Define performance testing strategy for SAP transactions, interfaces, and batch jobs.
• Oversee load, stress, and scalability testing to ensure systems handle peak retail periods (e.g., sales events, month-end).
• Utilize tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, or SAP Solution Manager to simulate workloads and monitor system KPIs.
• Analyze results and work with infra and SAP Basis teams to identify bottlenecks and optimize system performance.
4. Chapter Leadership & Competency Uplift
• Lead the Testing Chapter for SAP, setting standards, templates, and processes across squads and projects.
• Build testing capability by mentoring QA analysts, promoting knowledge sharing, and driving certification initiatives.
• Collaborate with other Chapter Leads and CoEs to ensure alignment and integration of quality practices across the tech organization.
• Continuously assess new tools, methods, and innovations to evolve testing approaches.

Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
• 8+ years of experience in SAP testing, with strong exposure to end-to-end retail processes
• Proven expertise in SAP test automation and performance testing
• Experience in leading testing teams, chapters, or communities of practice
• Knowledge of SAP Solution Manager, SAP Cloud ALM, Jira, Azure DevOps, and testing tools (preferred Tricentis Tosca & Neoload, Q.Test)
• Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and SAP Activate methodologies
Additional information;
– The organisation has around 50-60 agile teams, which are divided by horizontal chapters
– Candidate will work in the Test Competence chapter, which is related to several other teams responsible for the SAP landscape.
– Not only SAP related, because many other systems/warehouse management are connected, related to MDM, Finance, and Data.
– All teams need to be helped to operate at a higher level, working horizontally regarding test competence.
– Jumbo is busy now with a massive S/4 HANA implementation, testing aspect will be important regarding this implementation.
– Testing will not be done by this person, but he or she has to understand the technical aspect to a great extent.
– Jumbo is looking for an outgoing and proactive person who has no problem navigating through a tough stakeholder landscape.
– The role will not 100% fully be focused on SAP retail, but you need some background in SAP and Retail to be successful; a blend is important.
– There is a preference for Dutch speakers because the business stakeholders are predominantly Dutch, most comms will be in English though.
– Currently, 15 SAP teams that this person needs to handle as “Chapter” Lead, will become part of the Architects ‘club”.
– Within these teams, there are somewhat 2 layers which consist of business functionalities, and below this, there is platform enabling.
– Testing activities have been low lately and need to become more active now, also using Tosca and related frameworks/tools.
– The person will not directly manage people but will lead more overall, and guide the strategy and support process of test improvement.
